General Information about Bangkok:
Bangkok is (literally translated as “village in the plum grove”) named among Thais as Krung Thep. This is usually translated as “City of Angels”.
The capital of Thailand is by far the largest in the country and is alone in the city area more than 8 million inhabitants. In the entire metropolitan area, there are approximately 14.5 million. Bangkok is the political, cultural and economic center of Thailand and also the most important transport hub in the country. The location on the Chao Phraya River and the fact that previously a major part of life in the small channels, the so-called Khlongs took place, the city brought the nickname “Venice of the East” one.
Getting there:
International visitors from around the world usually meet on the
Suvarnabhumi International Airport. This is located about 30 kilometers east of the city center and offers excellent connections for domestic flights as well as the whole Asian region.
Also quite a few tour buses have a stop in Bangkok as a hub. Moreover, Bangkok can be reached by train. The Hua Lamphong railway station is a junction in the rail network of the Thai State Railway.
Transportation in Bangkok:
In Bangkok there are countless ways to get around. Taxis and tuk tuks dominate the streets. Alternatively there are public transport such as the skytrain or the subway.
Attractions Bangkok:
Bangkok has a number of attractions to offer. Besides the 400 Wats (temples) are still countless museums and the Royal Palace can be found. Even modern skyscrapers are always worth a visit. Below is a list of the main attractions of Bangkok.
Wat Pho:
Wat Pho is a Buddhist temple in the center of the historic old town. The Wat Pho houses beside the famous reclining Buddha statue and an open university and one of the most famous traditional massage schools in Thailand. Admission: 150 Baht
Wat Phra Kaeo:
Wat Phra Kaeo, also known as the “Temple of the Emerald Buddha” is the temple of the king within the old Royal Palace in Bangkok. The main attraction is the chapel, which houses the Emerald Buddha. This sits on a gilded throne at a height of 11 meters. Within the whole temple complex is taking some more wonderfully ornate monuments.
Admission: 500 baht including Grand Palace.
Grand Palace:
The Grand Palace in Bangkok was until the mid 20th century, the official residence of the King. The Palace know a wonderful architecture and is one of the biggest attractions such. For a visit Formal dress is required. Shorts are taboo. Long clothing can also be rented at the entrance.
Admission: 500 baht including Wat Phra Kaeo.
Wat Arun:
Wat Arun is a Buddhist temple on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. The temple complex consists of several Prang. The central prang represents the center, leading up to the four steep stairs. The height of the Prang is given in different sources with 66m or 80-86m. The entire complex is covered with a mosaic of porcelain and mussels, which arranges to floral patterns.
Wat Intharawihan (Big Buddha):
The temple Wat Intharawihan, also known as Big Buddha temple, houses the 32 meter high gilded Buddha statue.
There are several other temples, which I will not go into further here. However, the above are absolutely worth seeing.
Khaosan Road:
The Kao San Road is a 400m long road in Bangkok and can be described as the world center of the backpacker. The road lined with shops and especially at night is a lot here offered.

Lumphini-Park:
Lumphini Park is the largest park in central Bangkok and covers an area of around 576,000 square meters. The park is beautiful and the locals used as a recreation center. Go to earlier hours here many locals do their sporting activities.

MBK Center:
The MBK Center, with over 2000 stores is a huge shopping mall in the heart of Bangkok. The 8-storey building was opened in 1985 and is one day around 100,000 visitors. The MBK Center is located at Siam Square and is a complex system of tunnels and bridges with the adjacent Siam Paragon and Siam Discovery shopping centers connected.
In the 6th floor is the so-called Food Court where meals are getting from around the world.
Siam Paragon Shopping Center:
The Siam Paragon is located in direct proximity to MBK Center and also has the nickname “The Pride of Bangkok”. The building was inaugurated in 2005 and in addition to countless boutiques and luxury brands here you can find a huge aquarium with around 30,000 animals, a manmade reef and a shark tank. The entrance to the Siam Ocean World will cost about 1500 baht.
Siam Discovery Center:
Large shopping center right on Siam Square. Adjacent to MBK and Siam Paragon. All shopping centers are connected or in range.
Chatuchak Markt (Weekend Market):
The Chatuchak Market is the largest of its kind in the world. It has an area of 1.13 square kilometers and has more than 10,000 stalls and small shops. Most of them are open only on Saturdays and Sundays and offering everything from furniture to clothing to art and antiques.
It is estimated that it attracts around 250,000 visitors on the weekends. The market can be reached with the excellent Skytrain. Then you just get off at Kamphaeng Phet station.
Patpong Nachtmarkt Bangkok:
Patpong is a red light and entertainment district in Bangkok and consists of two parallel roads to Silom Road.
Every evening build here the dealer the famous night market. Here you will find souvenirs, textiles, and hardly something that does not exist. In the immediate vicinity are countless bars and restaurants. Even the famous GoGo Bars flank the market. Do not worry Patpong is safe in any way.

Soi Cowboy:
Soi Cowboy is a small red light district in Bangkok, and is situated between Soi 21 and Si 23 The road is only about 200 meters long and lined with GoGo bars.

Nana Plaza Bangkok:
The Nana Entertainment Plaza is a red-light district in Bangkok and is located in the side street Soi 4 Sukhumvit Road. The Nana Plaza is a square space, which is surrounded by three-story buildings. These are connected together. Inside there are countless Gogo bars and night clubs.

Skybar (Lebua at State Tower):
The Skybar, which is known from the movie Hangover 2, Towering over Bangkok. The Skybar is the highest open-air bar of the earth and is around 230 meters high. Admission is free. At the bar, however, a drink must be ordered. Prices are reasonable at 500 Baht per cocktail class. Long trousers, closed shoes and proper clothing are required in order not to be returned in a bar below.
One floor above the Skybar is the Scirocco Restaurant. However, it should be reserved in advance.

Baiyoke Sky Tower 2 / Hotel:
The Baiyoke Tower 2 is a skyscraper in Bangkok and the tallest building in Thailand. The 85-storey tower measures 328 meters to the peak and was opened in 1997. The tower itself is located next to the Sky Hotel, which is one of the tallest hotel buildings and a few offices. The base houses a few shops in the form of a shopping arcade. In the 85th floor of the Skywalk is found. This turns and offers a fabulous panoramic view of Bangkok. These include restaurants and a bar.
The price for a ride to the top is 500 Baht. However, This also includes a free drink in the bar.
Klong Tour Bangkok:
The Klong Tour on the Chao Phraya River is a ride into the simple areas of ​​Bangkok. Here the people live on the waterfront. The difference to the city is huge.
